April 16--GOSHEN -- Justin Crew has been named the new women's soccer coach at Goshen College, the Maple Leaf athletic department announced Monday.

Crew joins the Goshen coaching staff from Ancilla College, where he has led the women's soccer team since its inception in 2015. The Chargers qualified for their first NJCAA regional tournament in 2017, one year after leading the department in team grade-point average.

"I'm extremely excited to have this opportunity," Crew said. "Goshen offers a uniquely exciting college experience. My family and I love this area and we are committed to this community. Goshen gives us the chance to make a difference in the area in which we live and work."

"Justin brings a tremendous depth and breadth of soccer knowledge to the table," said Stephanie Miller, Goshen's senior woman administrator and chair of the search committee. "His passion and vision for our team was immediately evident. He was able to immediately connect with our athletes and build rapport, which was apparent through his workout and communication throughout this process. We are looking forward to watching him help grow the women's soccer program."

"Justin has a proven history of cultivating quality culture and developing young female athletes on and off the field," added athletic director Josh Gleason. "Along with his strong desire to incorporate his faith and service goals within his team framework, this will make him a wonderful addition to our athletic department team."

From 2007 to 2011, Crew served as head men's soccer coach at his alma mater, Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois. The Tigers averaged more than 11 wins a year with a .620 winning percentage during that five-year tenure, winning a regional and a conference tournament to qualify for nationals in both the NAIA and National Christian College Athletic Association. He was named NCCAA regional Coach of the Year in 2009.

A 2001 Olivet Nazarene graduate, Crew has also worked as an assistant coach at the University of South Carolina Upstate, working primarily with the goalkeepers at the NCAA Division I institution. He has been both a head coach and an assistant with FC Indiana of the United Women's Soccer League and serves as a staff coach with Junior Irish FC in South Bend.

"Having coached at all the different levels, including Division I, I am excited to coach again at a four-year, private Christian college," Crew said. "We can compete at a high level in a great conference while still maintaining a good work-life balance."

During his tenure at Ancilla, Crew also served as a professor of sports management and an international admissions counselor. He was also a game-day administrator for home basketball games and was responsible for creating and tracking the department's letters of intent.

"I love to compete, but having the opportunity to make a difference in players' lives gets me most excited," Crew said. "Playing college soccer changed my life and helped me to become the person I am today. I hope I can have the same positive influence on the players at Goshen College."

Crew and his wife, Jill, live in Mishawaka with their son Ethan and daughter Karlee.
